A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Ali Shamsi Studio and Nizami Street/Torgovaya. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Museum of Miniature Books and Heydar Mosque. Dedicate the 3rd (Sun) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's still lots to do: play a few rounds at Dreamland Golf Club, admire the striking features of Baku Railway Station, get engrossed in the history at National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, and examine the collection at National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature.

When traveling from Dubai in July, plan for colder days and a bit cooler nights in Baku: temperatures range from 36°C by day to 26°C at night. Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
On the 9th (Sat), make a trip to Mud Volcanoes.
