Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Baku is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also drive. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Riyadh to Baku due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Riyadh in October, things will get much colder in Baku: highs are around 21°C and lows about 14°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 12th (Tue) so you can go by car to Shamakhi.

Shamakhi

The City of Poets and Former Ancient Capital of the Country

Azerbaijan's former capital surrounded by fine countryside and packed with cultural heritage, Shamakhi is one of Azerbaijan’s most historic cities and the birthplace of legendary Azerbaijani poets Sabir and Nesimi.
On the 13th (Wed), examine the collection at Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory and then don't miss a visit to Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum. On the 14th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the spiritual surroundings of Juma Mosque.

Traveling by car from Baku to Shamakhi takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of bus and taxi. Traveling from Baku in October, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit cooler in Shamakhi, with lows of 10°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Thu) early enough to take a train to Gobustan.

Gobustan

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
On the 15th (Fri), make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then learn more about the world around you at Gobustan State Reserve. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate the long history of Diri Baba Mausoleum.

Getting from Shamakhi to Gobustan by train takes about 2 hours. Other options: drive. Traveling from Shamakhi in October, expect a bit warmer with lows of 14°C in Gobustan. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Sat) early enough to catch the flight back home.
