Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Sat): explore the world behind art at Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and then stroll around City Park. Keep things going the next day: indulge your senses at some of the top wineries in the area, snap pictures at Alexandra Suspension Bridge, and then identify plant and animal life at Cataract Gorge Reserve.

Melbourne to Launceston is an approximately 4-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of ferry and car. In September, Launceston is slightly colder than Melbourne - with highs of 17°C and lows of 4°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 22nd (Sun) early enough to go by car to Coles Bay.
