A place of geological wonders and precious cultural heritage, Rotorua District is at once a place of great activity and supreme relaxation. Located in the Pacific Rim of Fire, Rotorua District is renowned for its geothermal activity, its landscape marked by dramatic volcanic features, including bursting geysers, bubbling mud pools, and thermal hot springs. Admire the impressive forces of nature, and then dip calmly into its healing and restorative powers in a geothermal pool or one of the spas that utilize the therapeutic effects of the water here. No trip to Rotorua District would be complete without a visit to some of the Maori cultural attractions. The indigenous people possess intimate knowledge of the area's history and idiosyncratic geology, which they happily share through parks, educational facilities, and villages.
