Oviedo is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain and the administrative and commercial centre of the region. Get a sense of the local culture at Santa Maria de Leon Cathedral and Museo Panteon San Isidoro de Leon. Escape the urban bustle at Lake Covadonga and Cuevas de Valporquero. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Oviedo: Santuario De Covadonga (in Cangas de Onis) and Gijon (Jardin Botanico Atlantico & Playa de San Lorenzo). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Santa María del Naranco.
