Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
On the 11th (Tue), take a memorable drive along Iron Mountain Road, discover the riches below the earth's surface at Big Thunder Gold Mine, and then trek along Presidential Trail. On the next day, take in the dramatic natural features at Needles Eye Tunnel, thencontemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake, and then explore the wealth of natural beauty at Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
