Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Sylvan Lake and Mammoth Site of Hot Springs. Step out of the city life by going to Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Presidential Trail. Go for a jaunt from Custer to Wind Cave National Park to see Wind Cave National Park about 44 minutes away. There's still lots to do: cruise along Iron Mountain Road, explore the striking landscape at Needles Eye Tunnel, and admire all the interesting features of Needles Highway.
