Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Step out of Rovaniemi with an excursion to Ranua Zoo in Ranua--about 1 hour away. There's lots more to do: get engrossed in the history at Arktikum, don't miss a visit to Lordi's Square, pause for some serene contemplation at Rovaniemi Church, and see Santa Claus Office.

Helsinki to Rovaniemi is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. While traveling from Helsinki, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Rovaniemi, ranging from highs of 13°C to lows of 6°C. You will have some time to spend on the 4th (Fri) before leaving for Luosto.

Luosto

Nestled among vast forests and fells, Luosto represents a small idyllic resort village set on the edge of Pyha-Luosto National Park.
On the 4th (Fri), take in the awesome beauty at Luosto and then discover the riches below the earth's surface at Amethyst Mine Lapland.

You can drive from Rovaniemi to Luosto in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In September in Luosto, expect temperatures between 14°C during the day and 5°C at night. On the 5th (Sat), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Saariselka.

Saariselka

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Sat): look for gifts at Hippupuoti Gift Shop.
