For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Black Sand Beach, Isabel Segunda and Al's Mar Azul. Your day by day itinerary now includes La Placita de Santurce as well as Fortaleza Street. On the 10th (Mon), make a trip to Fortaleza Street, view the masterpieces at The Poet's Passage, then steep yourself in history at Sitio Histórico de San Juan, and finally join in the after-dark buzz at La Placita de Santurce. Keep things going the next day: tour the pleasant surroundings at Balneario El Escambron, zoom along the surf with a waterskiing or jet-skiing adventure, and then kick back and relax at Playa Isla Verde.
