San Juan, Puerto Rico — 2 nights

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
On the 1st (Wed), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista. Keep things going the next day: delve into the lush surroundings at El Yunque National Forest.

Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico — 1 night

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Sat): take a leisurely stroll along Malecon and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Balneario Sun Bay.

Getting from San Juan to Isla de Vieques by flight takes about 2 hours. Other options: do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle, taxi, and ferry. Clifton is a town located on Union Island, which is part of the Grenadines island chain of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sun): head off the coast to Palm Island.

Culebra, Puerto Rico — 1 night

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
On the 6th (Mon), kick back and relax at Playa Zoni, then visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse, and then step off the mainland to explore Culebrita. On the next day, kick back and relax at Flamenco Beach.
