An old logging town at the crux of the high desert and ponderosa pine forest, Bend melds a love of the outdoors with cosmopolitan flair.
On the 14th (Mon), examine the collection at High Desert Museum. On the 15th (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: hike along Pilot Butte State Scenic Viewpoint, then see Off-Road Tours, and then let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour.

Newark to Bend is an approximately 8.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of train and bus. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time to Pacific Standard Time, which is usually a -3 hour difference. Newport

A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Wed): trek along Ocean to Bay Trail, then enjoy the sand and surf at Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area, then enjoy the sea views from Yaquina Head Lighthouse, and finally tour the pleasant surroundings at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. On your second day here, cruise along Cape Perpetua Visitor Center - Siuslaw National Forest, visit a coastal fixture at Heceta Head Lighthouse, and then take a leisurely stroll along Yachats coastline.

Traveling by car from Bend to Newport takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and bus; or take a bus. When traveling from Bend in June, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Newport: temperatures range from 61°F by day to 48°F at night. Astoria

Spirit of the Columbia

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
On the 18th (Fri), admire the majestic nature at Ecola State Park, then enjoy the sand and surf at Cannon Beach, and then immerse yourself in nature at Hug Point State Park.
