Culebra — 1 night

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Kick off your visit on the 11th (Wed): visit a coastal fixture at Culebrita Lighthouse. On the 12th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: kick back and relax at Playa Punta Soldado Beach, enjoy the sand and surf at Flamenco Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Tamarindo.

San Juan to Culebra is an approximately 2-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle, taxi, and ferry. In January in Culebra, expect temperatures between 84°F during the day and 73°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 12th (Thu) early enough to fly to San Juan.

San Juan — 4 nights

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Pine Grove Beach and Balneario Luquillo. Sitio Histórico de San Juan and Paseo de la Princesa will appeal to history buffs. Change things up with a short trip to El Yunque National Forest in El Yunque National Forest (about 1h 10 min away). Next up on the itinerary: stroll through Carolina Beach, don't miss a visit to La Puerta de San Juan, stop by Puerto Rican Art & Crafts, and indulge in some culinary diversions at a local gastronomic tour.

Traveling by flight from Culebra to San Juan takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of ferry, taxi, and shuttle. In January, plan for daily highs up to 84°F, and evening lows to 73°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel back home.
