Cairo — 59 nights

City of a Thousand Minarets

More than 20 million people call Cairo their home and, as soon as you set foot in the sprawling metropolis, it's evident they make it crowded and chaotic, but also exuberant and charming.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cairo: Point 90 Mall (in New Cairo City) and Madinaty (Arabesque Mall & Madinaty Golf Club). On the 8th (Sat), spend a fun day on foot with Walking tours. Spend the 12th (Wed) behind the viewfinder with an inspiring photography tour. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, get to know the fascinating history of Coptic Cairo, get a taste of the local shopping with Khan Al-Khalili, and wander the streets of Islamic Cairo.

Cairo Governorate travel guide

4.2
Cairo Governorate is the most populated of the governorates of Egypt. Its capital, the city of Cairo, is the national capital of Egypt, and is part of the Greater Cairo metropolitan area. Because it is completely urbanized, the governorate is considered a city proper, and functions as a municipality. However, there are uninhabited desert areas.Parts of the governorate were separated in April 2008 to form the Helwan Governorate (reincorporated into the Cairo Governorate in April 2011).
