Yulara takes its name from the local Aboriginal words for "howling" and "dingoes," which conveys the town's isolated location in the Outback.

Start off your visit on the 29th (Thu): take in the dramatic natural features at Walpa Gorge. Keep things going the next day: head outdoors with Outback Cycling and then go for a walk through Field of Light.

Sydney to Yulara is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 0.5 hours traveling from Sydney to Yulara. Traveling from Sydney in August, expect nights in Yulara to be a bit cooler, around 6°C, while days are somewhat warmer, around 27°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Sat) so you can drive to Kings Canyon.

You can drive from Yulara to Kings Canyon in 3 hours. You will leave for Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park on the 31st (Sat).

Please note that visitors are no longer allowed to trek up Uluru.
