Though a fairly large city in its own right, Saitama has become known primarily for its proximity to the capital, Tokyo.
Change things up with these side-trips from Saitama: Ghibli Museum Mitaka (in Mitaka), Karuizawa-machi (Kumoba Pond, Karuizawa prince shopping plaza, & more) and Hitachi Seaside Park (in Hitachinaka). There's lots more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hikawa Shrine, make a trip to Ikaho Stone Steps, walk around Saitama Prefecture Omiya Park, and steep yourself in history at Jigan-ji Temple.

To see more things to do, other places to visit, where to stay, and other tourist information, you can read our Saitama route builder app .

If you are flying in from Philippines, the closest major airports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport and Hyakuri Airport. In September, daytime highs in Saitama are 32°C, while nighttime lows are 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Wed) to allow time to travel back home.
