Honolulu — 3 nights

Big Pineapple

In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Visiting Shark's Cove and Manoa Falls Trail will get you outdoors. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Waimanalo Beach and Banzai Pipeline. Get out of town with these interesting Honolulu side-trips: Waimanalo (Bellows Field Beach Park & Makapu'u Beach) and Haleiwa (Ehukai Pillbox Hike & Dolphin & Whale Watching). And it doesn't end there: take an in-depth tour of Aloha Pearl Harbor Tours, tour the pleasant surroundings at Sans Souci Beach Park, don't miss a visit to Honolulu Hale (City Hall), and take in the dramatic natural features at Halona Blowhole.

The Route module can give you travel options from your home to Honolulu. December in Honolulu sees daily highs of 82°F and lows of 69°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Tue) early enough to catch the flight to Kailua-Kona.

Kailua-Kona — 2 nights

Heart of the Kona Coast

Thanks to its favorable location near a mountain range blocking the northeasterly trade winds, Kailua-Kona gets little rainfall, allowing adventure seekers and nature lovers a chance to enjoy over 300 days of sunshine each year.
Kick off your visit on the 6th (Tue): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mokuaikaua Church, stroll through Makalawena/Pu'u Ali'i, tour the pleasant surroundings at Manini'owali Beach (Kua Bay), then look for all kinds of wild species at Kanaloa Octopus Farm, then stroll through Banyan's Beach, and finally admire the majestic nature at Kahalu'u Beach Park. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: get close to the beloved marine mammals with My Kona Adventures, get engrossed in the history at Hulihe'e Palace, then enjoy the sand and surf at White Sand Beach, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Magic Sands.
