Bring the kids along to Sea World Theme Park and Dreamworld. Cairns

The gateway to Queensland's tropical north, Cairns is a laid-back city best enjoyed outdoors.
Attractions like Scuba & Snorkeling and Muddy's Playground make great kid-friendly stops. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cairns: Palm Cove Beach (in Palm Cove) and Australian Butterfly Sanctuary (in Kuranda). Spend the 27th (Thu) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. On the 28th (Fri), do a day of sightseeing from above with a helicopter tour. There's still lots to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Esplanade Boardwalk, identify plant and animal life at Atherton Tablelands, enjoy the sand and surf at Trinity Beach, and don't miss a visit to Green Island.

Getting from Surfers Paradise to Cairns by combination of bus and flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Traveling from Surfers Paradise in December, expect Cairns to be a bit warmer, temps between 36°C and 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Tue) early enough to drive to Port Douglas.
