5 days in Taunggyi & Kalaw Itinerary

A major trading city in the mountains, Taunggyi offers good access to the plains and hills of the state.

Start off your visit on the 12th (Wed): take in the spiritual surroundings of Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, then admire the natural beauty at Floating Gardens, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hpaung Daw U Pagoda, and finally make a trip to Khit Sunn Yin Lotus, Silk and Cotton Hand Weaving Centre. On the 13th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: delve into the distant past at Indein Village and then see the interesting displays at Shan State Cultural Museum.

Mandalay to Taunggyi is an approximately 4.5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of taxi and flight; or drive; or take a bus. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Kalaw.

Established by British civil servants as a summer resort, Kalaw retains much of its colonial feel.

Getting from Taunggyi to Kalaw by car takes about 2 hours. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
