Official Hometown of Santa Claus

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.
Visiting Ranua Zoo and Nature & Wildlife Tours will get you outdoors. There's much more to do: get engrossed in the history at Arktikum, stop by LAURI Handicraft Shop & Atelier, make a trip to Lordi's Square, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Rovaniemi Church.

Oulu to Rovaniemi is an approximately 3-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 20°C in August, and nighttime lows around 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Wed) to allow time to drive to Saariselka.

Outdoor pursuits--ranging from cross-country skiing and snowmobiling to reindeer safaris and chasing Northern Lights--draw the largest number of tourists to Saariselka.
On the 6th (Thu), examine the collection at Siida - Sami Museum and Nature Center, stop by Hippupuoti Gift Shop, and then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the wealth of natural beauty at Urho Kekkonen National Park and then find something for the whole family at Angry Birds Activity Park.
