The gateway to one of the largest monastery complexes in Greece, the small town of Kalambaka nestles against a landscape of imposing rock formations rising 400 m (1,300 ft) into the air. Nearly leveled during World War II, the town rebuilt and reinvented itself in the post-war period, quickly becoming one of the region's major travel destinations.
Explore Kalambaka's surroundings by going to Metsovo (Averoff Gallery, Folk Art Museum Tossizza Mansion, & more), Lake Plastira (in Krioneri) and Trikala (Kliafa History and Culture Center, Stone Bridge Gate, & more). There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Meteora, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Monastery of the Great Meteoron, learn more about the world around you at Natural History Museum of Meteora & Mushroom Museum, and steep yourself in history at Roussanou Monastery.

If you are flying in from India, the closest major airports are Aktion National Airport, Thessaloniki Macedonia International Airport and Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport. In November, daily temperatures in Kalambaka can reach 15°C, while at night they dip to 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
