Step out of the city life by going to Reserva Bosque Nuboso Santa Elena and Viento Fresco Waterfall. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to The Bat Jungle and La Reserva Forest Reserve. And it doesn't end there: take a pleasant ride with a tour on horseback, take in nature's colorful creations at Monteverde Butterfly Garden (Jardin de Mariposas), look for all kinds of wild species at Valle Escondido Preserve, and delve into the lush surroundings at Children's Eternal Rain Forest.

A major port city with a busy fish market, for most tourists Puntarenas represents little more than the launching point for ferries heading to the pleasant beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula.
Take a break from the city and head to Nature & Wildlife Tours and Vista Los Suenos Horseback Riding. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Carara National Park and Pura Vida Gardens and Waterfalls.
