The Big Easy

Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Visit French Quarter and Lafayette Cemetery No.1 for their historical value. Garden District and Immaculate Conception Church are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting New Orleans side-trips: Whitney Plantation (in Wallace) and Oak Alley Plantation (in Vacherie). There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, sample the fine beverages at Old New Orleans Rum Distillery, explore the world behind art at The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Louis Cathedral.
