Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. On the 18th (Fri), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Ninh Binh.

Ninh Binh — 2 nights

A fairly nondescript town, Ninh Binh acts as a base for explorations of the province of the same name, with the karst landscape and lush valleys that surround the town offering a wealth of scenic vistas of rice paddies and rugged rocks.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Fri): take in the local highlights with Walking tours. Keep things going the next day: Head underground at Mua Caves, then don't miss a visit to Bich Dong Pagoda, and then make a trip to Tam Coc.
