Nissa la Bella (Nice the Beautiful)

Well-known for the beautiful views of its famous Promenade des Anglais waterfront, Nice is an ethnically-diverse coastal port city on the French Riviera and the fifth most populated city in France.
Step off the beaten path and head to Place Garibaldi and Cathedrale Sainte-Reparate. Ville medieval and Vieille Ville are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Venture out of the city with trips to St-Paul-de-Vence (Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs & La Collegiale de la Conversion de St-Paul), Cannes (La Croisette, Clock Tower of Notre-Dame de l'Esperance, &more) and Antibes (Old Town, Musee Picasso, &more). There's still lots to do: explore the galleries of Musee Escoffier de l'Art Culinaire, go for a walk through Quai des Etats Unis, admire the masterpieces at Musee des Arts Asiatiques de Nice, and contemplate the long history of Palais Lascaris.

Kelowna, Canada to Nice is an approximately 18-hour flight. The time zone changes from Pacific Standard Time to Central European Standard Time, which is usually a 9 hour difference. Best known as a fortified town, Carcassonne is a walled city that provided the inspiration for the castle in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and the location for many scenes in Kevin Costner's movie "Robin Hood." For a daily dose of excitement, medieval jousting tournaments are held twice per day between the two walls--while this may sound like a typical touristy show, it's actually an entertaining display of combative competition and horsemanship.
Eglise Saint-Nazaire and Cathar Castles will appeal to history buffs. Step off the beaten path and head to Chateau Comtal and Cathedrale Saint Fulcran.
