The town is located on four mesas of the Pajarito Plateau, and has a population of 12,019. Explore Los Alamos' surroundings by going to Abiquiu (Dar al Islam & Plaza Blanca), Jemez Springs (Jemez Trail National Scenic Byway, Jemez Historic Site, &more) and Ojito Wilderness (in San Ysidro). Albuquerque to Los Alamos is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or do a combination of train and bus. While traveling from Albuquerque, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Los Alamos, ranging from highs of 50°F to lows of 33°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Thu) to allow time to fly to San Diego.
