Vienna

Vienna ©
The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Melk Abbey and Kirche am Steinhof will appeal to history buffs. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Ringstrasse and Wachau Valley. Venture out of the city with trips to Klangturm St. Polten (in Sankt Polten), Burgruine Duernstein (in Durnstein) and Wallfahrtskirche Maria Laach (in Maria Laach am Jauerling). There's much more to do: explore the different monuments and memorials at Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof), get engrossed in the history at Kaiserliche Schatzkammer Wien, examine the collection at Leopold Museum, and admire the landmark architecture of Cafe Gloriette.
