Detroit — 2 nights

Founded in 1701 by a French explorer and adventurer, Detroit exerted a profound impact on the world for most of the 20th century.
Go for a jaunt from Detroit to Ann Arbor to see University of Michigan about 50 minutes away. Next up on the itinerary: explore the world behind art at Detroit Institute of Arts, contemplate the long history of Motown Museum, examine the collection at The Henry Ford, and take in the waterfront at Detroit RiverFront.

New York City to Detroit is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from New York City in November, expect Detroit to be a bit cooler, temps between 48°F and 34°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 29th (Mon) early enough to catch the flight back home.
