The quaint city of Healdsburg is one of northern California's wine capitals, serving as the meeting point for three of Sonoma's most important wine-producing regions.
Start off your visit on the 26th (Sat): do a tasting at Alexander Valley Vineyards and then indulge your taste buds at Food & Drink. Here are some ideas for day two: walk around Sonoma Plaza, then identify plant and animal life at Safari West, and then learn about winemaking at Stephen & Walker Winery.

Des Moines to Healdsburg is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. You'll gain 2 hours traveling from Des Moines to Healdsburg due to the time zone difference. When traveling from Des Moines in October, plan for a bit warmer days in Healdsburg, with highs around 79°F, while nights are about the same with lows around 46°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel back home.
