Carbondale is a city in Jackson County, Illinois, United States, within the Southern Illinois region informally known as "Little Egypt." The city developed from 1853 because of the stimulation of railroad construction into the area. Step out of the city life by going to Cache River State Natural Area and Ferne Clyffe State Park. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Rim Rock Recreation Trail and Little Grand Canyon. Change things up with a short trip to Tunnel Hill State Trail in Vienna (about 44 minutes away). It doesn't end there: admire all the interesting features of SIU Arena.

For more things to do, other places to visit, maps, and more tourist information, go to the Carbondale sightseeing planner.

July in Carbondale sees daily highs of 86°F and lows of 67°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
