Step off the beaten path and head to Carmel City Beach/Carmel River Beach and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Visit Point Lobos State Reserve and Asilomar State Beach for some beach relaxation. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Carmel: Big Sur (McWay Falls, Partington Cove, & more). You can drive from Paso Robles to Carmel in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train and bus; or take a bus. Traveling from Paso Robles in January, expect a bit warmer with lows of 7°C in Carmel. On the 22nd (Mon), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Mendocino.
