Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 3 hours traveling from Colombo to Hiroshima. In July, daytime highs in Hiroshima are 36°C, while nighttime lows are 28°C. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Head to Dotonbori and Nishiki Marketfor some retail therapy. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Gion and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Todai-ji Temple (in Nara) and Osaka Castle (in Osaka). You can take a train from Himeji to Kyoto in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Himeji, expect somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 37°C to lows of 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 24th (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Kanazawa.
