Start off your visit on the 9th (Thu): step into the grandiose world of Royal Palace, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Wat Phnom, and then pause for some photo ops at Independence Monument. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: steep yourself in history at Choeung Ek Genocidal Center, then take an in-depth tour of Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, and then see the interesting displays at National Museum.

Sydney, Australia to Phnom Penh is an approximately 13-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus. The time zone changes from Australian Eastern Standard Time (New South Wales) to Indochina Time, which is usually a -3 hour difference. When traveling from Sydney in January, plan for somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Phnom Penh: temperatures range from 36°C by day to 26°C at night.
