Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Visiting Hiram M. Chittenden Locks and Mercer Slough Nature Park will get you outdoors. Shop till you drop at Pike Place Market and Chukar Cherries. Get out of town with these interesting Seattle side-trips: Friends of Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (in Issaquah) and Snoqualmie Falls (in Snoqualmie). Dedicate the 28th (Sat) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's still lots to do: enjoy breathtaking views from Space Needle, get in on the family fun at Seattle Great Wheel, get some jogging in at Discovery Park, and meet the residents at Seattle Aquarium.

You can fly from Friday Harbor to Seattle in an hour. Another option is to ride a ferry. In July, Seattle is somewhat warmer than Friday Harbor - with highs of 30°C and lows of 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sun) so you can travel back home.
