Lying 150 km (93 mi) from Vientiane en route to Luang Prabang, and perched on the Song River, Vang Vieng attracts eco-tourists for the bizarre limestone hills surrounding the town.
Get outdoors at Tham Phu Kham Cave and Blue Lagoon and Tham Chang Cave. There's still lots to do: Head underground at Tham Nam (Water cave), see the sights as you ascend with a climbing tour, relax and float downstream with a rafting and tubing tour, and soar above the sights with a balloon tour.
