Bring the kids along to Canal Grande and Doge's Palace. Explore Venice's surroundings by going to Padua (Basilica di Sant’Antonio & Scrovegni Chapel). There's lots more to do: make a trip to St. Mark's Square, pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica di San Marco, steep yourself in history at Ponte dei Sospiri, and browse the exhibits of Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
