As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.
Get in touch with nature at Mutianyu Great Wall and Back Lakes (Hou Hai). Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) and Temple of Heaven will appeal to history buffs. Take a break from Beijing with a short trip to Xinzhou Successive Great Wall in Pianguan County, about 1h 25 min away.
