An island town, capital of the landlocked region of Peten, attractive Flores features pleasant architecture that complements the shimmering appearance of the surrounding lake.
Step out of the city life by going to Ixpanpajul Nature Park and Cerro Biotope Cahui. Get a sense of the local culture at Ruinas de Uaxactun and Catedral de Flores. There's still lots to do: identify plant and animal life at Las Guacamayas Biological Station, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Petencito Zoo, and make a trip to Jorge's Rope Swing.

Visiting Santa Maria Volcano and Cerro El Baul will get you outdoors. Step off the beaten path and head to Laguna Chicabal and Xetulul Theme Park. Step out of Quetzaltenango with an excursion to Fuentes Georginas in Zunil--about 54 minutes away. The adventure continues: don't miss a visit to Central Plaza and pause for some serene contemplation at Catedral del Espiritu Santo.
