Semporna District travel guide

Scuba & Snorkeling · National Parks · Islands
A mostly flat landscape blanketed in verdant scrub and tall palm trees, Semporna District serves as gateway to some of the best diving spots in the world. Two marine parks sit just off Semporna's coast, containing lush, jungle-clad islands, flourishing coral reefs, and steep underwater walls, where you can see thousands of fish, sharks, turtles, and other ocean-dwellers. While diving and relaxing on the archipelago's beach resorts fills the bulk of a typical Semporna District itinerary, the mainland does hold a few attractions of its own. The few hills provide sweeping panoramas of the flat surrounding landscape; a cruise down the river reveals crocodiles, rare birds, and proboscis monkeys; picturesque traditional villages on stilts dot the coastline; and the district's main hub--also called Semporna--holds some decent bars and restaurants, as well as excellent seafood markets.
