The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Step out of the city life by going to Alpine Joe - Mountain Hiking Guide and Kahlenberg. Head to Vienna Naschmarkt and Graben and Kohlmarktfor some retail therapy. There's much more to do: explore the historical opulence of Schonbrunn Palace, pause for some serene contemplation at St. Stephen's Cathedral, examine the collection at Hofburg, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Augustinerkirche.

Muscat, Oman to Vienna is an approximately 12-hour flight. The time zone changes from Gulf Standard Time (GST) to Central European Standard Time (CET), which is usually a -3 hour difference. Traveling from Muscat in August, expect nights in Vienna to be much colder, around 18°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 31°C. You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Do your shopping at Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galeria) and Vaci Street. Bring the kids along to Széchenyi Thermal Bath and Palatinus Strandfürdő. There's much more to do: admire the landmark architecture of Hungarian Parliament Building, see the interesting displays at House of Terror Museum, steep yourself in history at Heroes' Square, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Stephen's Basilica (Szent Istvan Bazilika).

You can drive from Vienna to Budapest in 2.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or take a train. In August, daily temperatures in Budapest can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Mon) early enough to drive to Liptovsky Mikulas.

A town in the Liptov Basin near the Tatra Mountains, Liptovsky Mikulas boasts a rich cultural and natural history.
Take a break from the city and head to Slovak Paradise and Demanovska Cave of Liberty. Kids will appreciate attractions like Aquapark Tatralandia and Zoo Kontakt. Venture out of the city with trips to AquaCity Poprad (in Poprad), Dobsinska Ice Cave (in Dobsina) and Strbske Pleso (Jazierka lasky & Strbske Pleso Lake).
