Let the collections at Alcazar de Segovia and Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza capture your imagination. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to The Walls of Avila and The Four Posts. Venture out of the city with trips to Cathedral of Avila (in Avila), Catedral de Segovia (in Segovia) and Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion (in Duraton). There's lots more to do: admire the masterpieces at Royal Palace of Madrid, walk around Retiro Park, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Royal Chapel of St. Anthony of La Florida, and admire the striking features of Plaza Mayor.

Amsterdam, Holland to Madrid is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or drive. Traveling from Amsterdam in July, you will find days in Madrid are warmer (94°F), and nights are a bit warmer (68°F). Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Mon) early enough to travel to Candelario.
