Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.

Madrid, Spain to San Juan is an approximately 12-hour flight. You'll gain 5 hours traveling from Madrid to San Juan due to the time zone difference. Expect a bit warmer evenings in San Juan when traveling from Madrid in June, with lows around 30°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) early enough to drive to Ponce.

Ponce — 3 nights

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Explore Ponce's surroundings by going to Guanica (Island Scuba & Bosque Estatal de Guanica) and Cana Gorda Beach (in Playa de Guanica). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Museo de Arte de Ponce, examine the collection at Parque de Bombas, and steep yourself in history at Museo Castillo Serralles.

Getting from San Juan to Ponce by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: fly; or take a shuttle. When traveling from San Juan in June, plan for slightly colder days in Ponce, with highs around 33°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 7th (Tue) so you can go by car to Camuy.

Camuy — 2 nights

Camuy is a municipality of Puerto Rico, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Lares; east of Quebradillas; and west of Hatillo. Start off your visit on the 8th (Wed): explore the fascinating underground world of Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Rio Camuy. On your second day here, get a dose of the wild on Cacique Eco Adventure Tanama and then whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks.
