Oaxaca

Capital city of the eponymous state, Oaxaca relies heavily on its colonial charm, its core a maze of tree-shaded alleys flanked by photogenic mansions, government buildings, and old churches.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Rufino Tamayo Museum of Pre-Hispanic Art and Convento de Cuilapam. There's lots more to do: make a trip to Tule Tree, hike along Pueblos Mancomunados, see the interesting displays at Museo de Filatelia de Oaxaca, A.C., and walk around Parque Juarez El Llano.
