Standing magnificently on top of a hill overlooking the Dordogne Valley filled with lush vineyards, Saint-Émilion fuses history and modern culture with medieval ambience--even in its wine bars, museums, markets, art galleries, cafes, and shops.
On the 2nd (Wed), do a tasting at Chateau Marquis de Vauban, learn about winemaking at Cloitre des Cordeliers, then learn about winemaking at Chateau Laniote, and finally do a tasting at Chateau Cantenac. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Eglise Collegiale de Saint-Emilion, view the masterpieces at Galerie d'Art Contemporain L'Orange Bleue, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion, then step into the grandiose world of Chateau de Duras, and finally do a tasting at Chateau Paloumey.

To see ratings, where to stay, other places to visit, and more tourist information, go to the Saint-Emilion day trip planner.

In October, plan for daily highs up to 23°C, and evening lows to 12°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
