First Santiago of the Americas

Founded in 1496 by Christopher Columbus' brother, Santiago de los Caballeros was among the very first European settlements in the Americas, which explains its nickname: "First Santiago of the Americas." Today, the city represents one of the Western Hemisphere's major financial, cultural, and industrial centers.
Kids will appreciate attractions like Ocean World Adventure Park, Puerto Plata and 27 Charcos. Explore Santiago de los Caballeros' surroundings by going to Paradise Island & The Mangroves (Cayo Arena) (in Punta Rucia), Cayo Arena (in Monte Cristi) and Puerto Plata (Hacienda Cufa, Pico Isabel de Torres, &more). And it doesn't end there: make a trip to La Aurora Cigar Factory, look for gifts at Las 3 Reinas Cigar Shop, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Catedral de Santiago Apostol, and see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour.
