A multicultural melting pot of a city, the Mauritian capital of Port Louis--or simply "Louis," as it's affectionately known--represents the most populous area of Mauritius.

Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Blue Penny Museum and Jewish Detainees Museum and Saint Martin Jewish Cemetery. Head to Bernd Wilhelm and Trianon Shopping Parkfor plenty of shopping. Get out of town with these interesting Port Louis side-trips: Sagar Shiv Mandir (in Pointe de Flacq), Grand River South East Waterfalls (in Beau Champ) and Centre de Flacq (Marche de Flacq & Flacq Coeur de Ville). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Chateau De Labourdonnais, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kaylasson Temple, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Pointes des Lascars Hindu Spiritual Park, and head off the coast to Ile aux Cerfs.
