Hita is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan, that was founded on December 11, 1940. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Mikumagawa River and Mamedamachi Shopping Street. Get out of town with these interesting Hita side-trips: Kokonoe-machi (Ryumon Falls & Kokonoe Yume Otsurihashi Bridge), Nakatsu (Yabakei Dam Memorial Park Keisekien, Rakanji Temple, &more) and Jion Falls (in Kusu-machi). There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Takatsuka Atago Jizoson, get outside with Hita Ayu Yanaba, examine the collection at Tenryo Hinagoten, and admire the sheer force of Sakuradaki Waterfall.

Taketa is a city located in Ōita Prefecture, Japan. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kuju Highland and Mt. Kuju. Get out of town with these interesting Taketa side-trips: Kokonoe-machi (Kuju Mountain Range, Tadewara Wetlands, &more), Usuki Sekibutsu (in Usuki) and Chinda Fall (in Bungoono). There's still lots to do: see human ingenuity at work at Hakusui Dam, don't miss a visit to Colonade Drink Spring, delve into the distant past at Nanatsumori Ancient Tumulus, and take in the dramatic scenery at Shiramizu Falls.
