Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Sensō-ji and National Museum of Nature and Science are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with a short trip to Tokyo DisneySea in Maihama (about 30 minutes away). Have a day of magic on the 3rd (Thu) at Tokyo Disneyland. There's lots more to do: take a stroll through Odaiba, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Ueno Zoo, admire the natural beauty at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and don't miss a visit to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji will appeal to history buffs. Museum-lovers will get to explore Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan and Todaiji Temple Cultural Center. Venture out of the city with trips to Universal Studios Japan (in Osaka) and Nara Park (in Nara). There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, wander the streets of Gion, steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple.

Getting from Tokyo to Kyoto by train takes about 3 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. October in Kyoto sees daily highs of 27°C and lows of 18°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Tue) early enough to catch the train to Hiroshima.

Kick off your visit on the 9th (Wed): kick back and relax at Mikasahama Beach, step off the mainland to explore Miyajima, then don't miss a visit to Itsukushima Shrine Torii, and finally contemplate the long history of Itsukushima Shrine. Traveling by train from Kyoto to Hiroshima takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In October in Hiroshima, expect temperatures between 26°C during the day and 19°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 10th (Thu) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Let the collections at Ishigaki Yaima Village and National Astronomical Observatory of Japan-Vera Ishigaki Island Observatory Station capture your imagination. Attractions like Yonehara Beach and Kondoi Beach make great kid-friendly stops. Spend the 12th (Sat) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. And it doesn't end there: explore the activities along Kabira Bay, make a trip to Nagurao Bridge, explore the gorgeous colors at Kabira Ishizaki Manta Scramble, and enjoy the sea views from Cape Hirakubozaki.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Ishigaki takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Traveling from Hiroshima in October, things will get somewhat warmer in Ishigaki: highs are around 34°C and lows about 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Onna-son.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Step out of the city life by going to Scuba & Snorkeling and Cape Manzamo. Kids will enjoy Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. Venture out of the city with trips to Akabaka Beach (in Nakijin-son) and Iejima Beach Side Horse Park (in Ie-son). There's more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Diamond Beach and kick back and relax at Sun Marina Beach.
