The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Osaka Shiritsu Toyo Toji Museum (in Osaka) and Dotombori (Dotombori & Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotombori). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine, wander the streets of Gion, and explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle.

Istanbul, Turkey to Kyoto is an approximately 14- hour combination of flight and train. You can also do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of flight, bus, and train. The time zone difference moving from Turkey Time (TRT) to Japan Standard Time (JST) is 6 hours. When traveling from Istanbul in May, plan for somewhat warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 29°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Tue) to allow enough time to take a train to Kanazawa.

When traveling from Kyoto in May, plan for a bit cooler days in Kanazawa, with highs around 26°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Fri) so you can take a train to Tokyo.
