Pointe-à-Pitre is the largest city of Guadeloupe, an overseas région and département of France located in the Lesser Antilles, of which it is a sous-préfecture, being the seat of the Arrondissement of Pointe-à-Pitre.Although Pointe-à-Pitre is not Guadeloupe's administrative capital (that distinction goes to Basse-Terre), it is nonetheless the region's largest city and economic capital. Family-friendly places like Parc des Mamelles, le Zoo de Guadeloupe and Jardin Botanique de Deshaies will thrill your kids. Venture out of the city with trips to Deshaies (Plage de Grande Anse, Plage Leroux, &more), Sainte Rose (Scuba & Snorkeling & Ilet Caret) and Carbet Falls (Les Chutes du Carbet) (in Parc National). There's lots more to do: get engrossed in the history at Memorial Acte, tour the pleasant surroundings at Plage de la Datcha, take a memorable drive along Route de la Traversee, and head off the coast to Ilet du Gosier.
