A popular holiday spot for Venezuelans, sunny Margarita Island boasts an exotic Caribbean location, but at the same time is easily accessible from the mainland.
Relax by the water at Playa el Yaque and Playa Parguito. Fortín La Galera and Basilica Virgen del Valle will appeal to history buffs. Change things up with a short trip to Centro Sambil Barquisimeto in Barquisimeto (about 40 minutes away). Spend the 16th (Mon) exploring nature at Laguna de la Restinga. Spend the 27th (Fri) exploring nature at Parque Nacional Laguna de La Restinga. The adventure continues: kick back and relax at La Playa El Agua, tour the pleasant surroundings at Guacuco Beach, look for gifts at Sambil Margarita, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Catedral Nuestra Senora.
